Peony modern kitchen approached Gensler to design their brand new restaurant in Bellevue, Washington. With only a name to start with, the full brand experience from logo to interior design brought a fresh interpretation to modern Chinese cuisine.
Logo inspiration:
Peonies are the national flower of China and come in a variety of species, some with very dense petal structures. In developing the brand with the interior design of the restaurant, we sought to combine the flower with the iconic Chinese lantern.
Construction of the hidden “P” in the geometric flower symbol.
The original logo lock-up used custom geometric Chinese characters, but were replaced with calligraphy for the final implemenation.
