Sweet Home Chicago
A look at the 5th and 6th floors of the LinkedIn Chicago office, which put a fun twist on the city’s parks and music history.

The 5th floor was designed as a break from the working floors. Following the theme of Chicago parks, the lounge features a latticework map of the city, with green turf indicating where all of the parks are located.

The game room pays homage to Wrigley Field, home of the Cubs baseball team and the famous ivy outfield wall.

Inside the “hidden garden” room, employees can zen out for a few minutes among the flower and leaf patterns. And the music room plays a similar tune, with instruments standing in for the flowers.
On the 6th floor, the workspace is divided strategically by Chicago’s two biggest claims to music: Chicago blues and House music. A graphic on the floor circles walking path the large floor plan, marking the blues section with a music sheet of Muddy Water’s legendary song, “Sweet Home Chicago” with an accompanying wall graphic.

Veering down the hall to the Chicago House music wing of the floor plan, the sheet music transitions into a beat sequencer of Chicago house pioneer Mr. Fingers, “Can You Feel It” (1986). The graphic finishes by wrapping up the wall, showing the “input levels” of the sound, bass, and energy of the employees at LinkedIn.

The conference rooms were based of the full music history of the city, several receiving names of historical venues, like this one for The Chicago Theater.

The famous marquee sign was recreated in dimensional acrylic.

It might be a work place, but some are just here to party.
